"a matter of life and death" I picked it up yesterday, and its decent.

Its alot like their cd "7th son of a 7th son" its not heavy and meolodic(sp) like powerslave or the number of the beast. but its nice, I just wish it was heavier

anyone else have it?

Been meaning to make this thread for awhile, but kept forgetting.

I have it.

NOT as fast as most of their albums, but still good.

Listened to the album a few time on rhapsody, its a decent album though reviving the heavy metal side of their past would be great. An album heavier then number of the best and more melodic than powerslave would be awesome. I'm a bit let down by their new album's sound but they are also more of a live concert band rather than an album making band. Lots of energy with a roaring audience.

I enjoyed it but im agreeing with hobo (as i said in my first post about the heavyness)

I loved the album cover, the tank with the skeleton soldiers. I like most of their artwork. Mainly because of eddie I just wish they had a CD as good as powerslave with the same artwork(the egyptian eddie was my fav)

I still need to see them live

Heh, sidenote: That guy worked on a few Gamma Ray album covers I believe.
(probably just one, but I'm not sure. And obviously, Blast from the Past. You can just tell).

Yeah, I still haven't heard this album. Oddly enough, I still don't know much about Iron Maiden (of all bands?). Right now I can just say I loved their debut, Killers (a lot!), Number of the Beast, and Powerslave, but I haven't heard much outside of those albums.

I'm guessing I should start with other albums before I check this one out.

Xeo, do me a favor and give Seventh Son of a Seventh Son a good listen.

Because it's damned awesome.

Also....
*Victim of Fate has his Iron Maiden ticket.

As always, I plan to be in the front rows.

Just listened to the new album (didn't think to check Yahoo Jukebox). It didn't really do anything for me, kind of reminded me of some of Dio's newer stuff too (just seems washed out from their older stuff).

Not horrible, but yeah. Maybe I just need to stop listening to lightning riffsirlots Running / Wild for awhile. (I can't explain how much I love them, they're very close to GR).

I do have to admit though ... Bruce is just amazing. He's in his 50's right? And yet he still sounds incredible, and even better than plenty of other vocalists out there.

Anyways, I can also stream a bunch of their other albums. I'll check out Seventh Son of a Seventh Son now.

Holy crap, Somewhere in Time is amazing.

Edit: Heh, it came out in 1986. I'm thinking a greater power made Metal albums during 86-88, I couldn't begin to list how many incredible Metal albums those years had.

Caught Somewhere in Time, I don't even know what to say about that song.

I really don't think so, it came out before Seventh Son of a Seventh Son so kind of midway into their career.

By the way, I still think some of the non-Bruce singers were great too. I especially liked Paul Dianno on Killers.

Edit: I still haven't heard anything with Blaze in it ... doupt I'd like it, from what I've heard and how people have described his style.

Yeah, I've seen a few people say he'd fit more in a Death Metal band, which just seems a bit odd. I don't know, I'll have to check one of the Blaze-era albums out just to hear him myself, but I doupt I'd like him at all.

I know you wont, its kinda like metallicas load and reload albums, some of the instrumental is good, but the way the vocals come in, the sound of them, the choice of words ruin it.

I bought their X factor album with blaze bayley on vocals, and hated every second of it.

Wow, I just gave the first few songs on X-Factor and Virtual IX ... I had to laugh a little bit, it just seriously doesn't sound like Iron Maiden at all.

One thing I've noticed about Iron Maiden, is the bass. You can actually hear it, like always. Just not something you alway see in some metal bands.

Yeah, steve harris makes me want to learn to play bass, but I always liked bass for some reason, its call out to me

I think most of the into to the killers song, and be quick or dead are bass and rhytm guitars.

Deja Vu sounds like something straight from a Megaman game, its just awesome. Bruce's singing is a little different in that song though. I'm probably going to buy all their albums from the 80's, and then I can finally say after such a long time, I'm a Maiden fan.

I still say I like Michael Kiske's singing and voice slightly more than Bruce's, very similar, but its just something I can't explain. Maybe just my Helloween fanboyism.
