Artist: Grim Reaper
Genre: New Wave of British Heavy Metal
Influenced by Judas Priest and Iron Maiden both heavily and had contemporaries with Helloween. I'm sure Xeo will enjoy.

Now that, is some shit. Pure shit.

As in holy-crap-I-need-to-buy-more-albums-now!

Absolutely incedible Hobo. Show me more, I know you have ways of hearing a lot of music ... I may join that way soon. But for now, if you have any further recommendations, please go ahead!

Seriously, I absolutely loved those songs there. Vocals were very striking, and the style is incredible.

@Spyware: Dude, check out Blind Guardian's Battalions of Fear if you love Helloween's Walls of Jericho that much. Its basically, 100% the exact same sound and style, but the quality seems better. Its probably my favorite BG album, and definitely a powerful album compared to many other bands. Check it out, I'm more than positive you'd like it. I could even upload a song if you insist.

I like Gamma Ray alot.

But less when I have to retranscribe a solo from them (The
Silence (Live))
(I made my guitar teacher print about 70 sheets in about 2 weeks, and didn't notice the solo wasn't there, so now I'm doing it myself).

I also downloaded some more Gamma Ray albums, planning to buy stuff soon.

Also been trying new bands, will post a report or something soon.

DS: Attempted the solo from Lust for Life?
(Blast from the Past version)

It just seems to go on and on, and its sweeps and changes are so incredible. Definitely one of GR's "grooviest" and longer solos if you ask me.

And do please let me know about some new stuff you may have heard.

Also Hobo, does Rhapsody by chance have any of X-Japan? I've heard some incredible reviews and praise for them, but can't say I've actually heard them yet. They really do seem groundbreaking from all the stuff I've read though.

I hear a lot of Japanese metal is crazy, but can't say I've heard of anything besides one song from the band 403.

Considering Rhapsody is an American company the likelyness of finding a Japanese Metal band is a bit slim. I checked, didn't find anything on them. You can probably write a letter or two to Rhapsody staff and have them ask bands to put their music on Rhapsody.

Rhapsody doesn't have every band on Earth and continues to update and add more content everyday so something you may like is bound to come in.

Are they that nice about adding content?

Basically, would they actually consider adding X-Japan if I requested it?

I don't know if they'd add it if you asked them but they may ask X-Japan if they may take their music and put it up for sale/stream on Rhapsody's service. It depends entirely on the artist's choice.

Look around FAQ's, forums, anything that may answer your question. Their staff seem like nice people even though I'm not a fan of their certain parts of their software.

If you make the letter sound as professional and business like as you can and send it politely with professionalism all over your request they may very well ask the band quicker than requests of

"Yo, I like dis rappa his name is Abcde Fghij ands I recommends you puts him on yo's service. Thanks ~ Howie"

If it will make them money then they will do it pretty much

So Hobo, I'm sitting here kind of laughing out how I just keep dragging this out. But I guess it became some kind of a short joke between us?

Basically, I'm sitting here thinking "For gods sake its what $10 a month?"

I'll probably sign up tommorow.

Pyramaze

I definitely get sick of myspace, but a good source for samples nonetheless.

I've been doing some deep searching recently. Saw this band recommended at Metal Archives. Definitely not bad. Pretty melodic, and Megaman-ish.

And Hibria. Awesome, sounds like Racer X.

As DarkSlaya might say Hibria's second sample on the site is "LOL awesome".

VIRGIN STEELE

Never, have I gotten into a band as fast as I have with this one. I downloaded a few albums off Yahoo's Music Jukebox (like Rhapsody), and instantly fell in love. I ordered 7 of their albums off Amazon. Call me crazy, but these guys kick serious ass.

They're been thanked and given cheers to in a handful of Gamma Ray's albums, and they're definitely up there.

The best way to explain them ... imagine Blind Guardian with more of a 'glorious' tone with vocals that match up to Manowar's Eric Adamns and Judas Priest's Rob Halford.

Their first two albums Virgin Steele 1 and Guardians of the Flame, instantly rank up there with some of Judas Priest's classics, and the style is similar.

From there, they put out The Marriage of Heaven and Hell 1-2, Invictus, The House of Atreus 1-2, all hailed as some of the greatest epic Metal albums ever.

They've done what Manowar always wanted to do, make good epic metal that doesn't get boring, only they succeeded vastly beyond Manowar.

Seriously, one of the best bands I've heard in awhile, and I became obsessed in a few days. They're probably one of my favorites.

I'll upload some songs once I get some albums in the mail.

Well, I'll unsticky this and I deleted every song posted in this thread (sorry), to free up space.

For some reason, even that version annoys me.

That reminds me of the death metal "Final Countdown" song that I've heard. (Its NOT CoB though, despite what some people say).

Anyways, I youtube'd it and got this shit. This is terrible, so terrible I had to post it.

Funny people there think that one is CoB too. Yeah right. But the one I've heard is actually pretty cool, still not CoB though.

Xeo, honey, click the guy's name who posted it. You'll see he makes all these fake metal videos.

Example:

EDIT: Oh and I'd been meaning to post this since I saw it on SNL, but my friend reminded me that they also performed it at the SpikeTV awards so I figured I'd throw this in now.

The Metal:

The guy in the suit is the same guy who played their friend, Lee, in the movie.

Seriously, if Jack Black or Tenacious D went for a more serious approach in Metal, they'd be one of the greatest bands alive.

I mean they're awesome, but you know what I mean.

Jack Black hands down has one of the best voices out there. Practicaly just as good as Manowar's legendary Eric Adams (they even sound similar. I can't help but look at The Pick of Destiny almost as a spoof of Manowar).

Discovered an awesome thrash band, somewhat like Metallica, Megadeth, Overkill, etc. But I'd compare them mostly to Helloween's Walls of Jericho album (vocals even sound similar). I've never been too big on thrash, but these guys are pretty awesome.

Heathen

They've only put out two Full albums despite being around since the 80's, but they're incredible. And you can download them at their site!
http://www.heathenmetal.com/main/media.html

I'd imagine Spyware, Darkslaya, and others will enjoy them.
