I had a hot, Thomas Jane-look alike for a history professor when I first transferred into university. Yup, got an A+.

Not joking, I went into a dream-like trance when he started reading poetry, in class, by Suleiman the Magnificent to his favorite harem girl and later wife.

I mean check this out:

"Throne of my lonely niche, my wealth, my love, my moonlight.
My most sincere friend, my confidant, my very existence, my Sultan, my one and only love.
The most beautiful among the beautiful...
My springtime, my merry faced love, my daytime, my sweetheart, laughing leaf...
My plants, my sweet, my rose, the one only who does not distress me in this world...
My Constantinople, my Caraman, the earth of my Anatolia
My Badakhshan, my Baghdad and Khorasan
My woman of the beautiful hair, my love of the slanted brow, my love of eyes full of mischief...
I'll sing your praises always
I, lover of the tormented heart, Muhibbi of the eyes full of tears, I am happy."

I really missed that guy. Wanted to take more classes with him (especially since he had a class JUST on the WWII and I was dying to take it), but he started just doing independent study, occasionally teaching Beginning History. I ran into him once in the hallway a year and half after taking his class, not only did he say "Oh hey!", he smiled warmly and winked. Eeeeee!!!

OK, in all seriousness, the guy's lectures were interesting and I absorbed them like a sponge. History geeks are just freaking sexy.

EDIT: And his Southern accent was pretty damn hard to NOT find incredibly charming.

I kept thinking Joker was suddenly The Comedian, like Alan wasn't through playing with aspects of that character the year or so prior to penning The Killing Joke. Like he saw the world as one big joke.

I guess regarding the metaphorical joke, it's pretty much pointing out that Batman and Joker are both insane, but Batman's putting it towards a force of good, while Joker's obviously not. I dunno.

Picked up the first Walking Dead compendium from the library. I might finally finish it. I mean, I've read the first two graphic novels, and despite owning like the next three, I never really sat down to read them.

Not-so-nice bump.

Hey man, I know you're new and everything (and that's great), but if you're going to bump years old threads to the top at least add something more constructive.

Since the Marketplace hasn't really been used in years, I'll just close this.

The LAST thing would be hanging out at this truckers diner with friends, playing a card game, and this one friend kept talking really loudly, and getting louder and louder. The place was otherwise completely quiet, with all of the truckers eating their dinner at the counter and they keep looking over at us.

We were playing Apples to Apples, which is pretty much putting down adjectives and people draw nouns from their hand they feel fit the description. Since we play like assholes, we rarely take the game seriously and this chick is still fairly new to the game and gets WAY TOO EXCITED and laughs like a goon. I had to shush her multiple times (which is something I rarely do to anyone). The waitresses started turning up the volume on the TVs.

Freaking chick also ate most of my nachos and then didn't put in for even the lone taco she got for herself. Or put in for a tip. Brandon and I only had a couple bucks and that's all that was left for the entire table. The waitress came by before we left and gave us this look when she saw the pitiful tip.

Hm, without looking at the person's name, my first thought was this was written by a woman, until I got to about the middle.

Yeah, I could see saying such things being a mental manipulation and that it happens, but I've never known these sorts of things to be intentional.

Trying to think of instances of gaslighting in my life, I come up void. I've never been told I'm crazy, though I have been told to calm down and that I'm over-reacting. Usually I am. Heh, maybe I've been on the receiving end of it so much I can't really identify it. I do find myself apologizing for things I say sometimes and overly using emoticons.

I hate to say it, but many women I know ARE crazy. I've never said any of those things to them (I tend to be extremely empathic and identify with feelings), and I've never attempted to set them off so I could say those things. It's just... well, if I've ever said, "Calm down," it's because one needs to be calm to address a situation. Suddenly stopping your car and hugging the steering wheel as you cry because you missed a turn is NOT normal behavior. Nor is switching between crying and laughing and crying and laughing and then threatening to kill yourself. Maybe I'm gaslighting now.

Truth is, I don't see women as crazy as this person is disappointed that the world has come to take for truth, but rather we ARE just that open with our feelings and if we're pissed the whole goddamn world's gonna hear about it.

I have no idea what I just wrote.

Dead trees are really amazing, Phoenix.

Autumn is my favorite season too. It's getting cooler, sometimes with that crisp bite of winter in the air.

It has my favorite holidays, Dia de los Muertos being the top of the heap. Usually means trips to Arizona for Thanksgiving and maybe Christmas later (but that's another season). Probably not going this year since Brandon's aunt might be having her baby in early November, so she won't be traveling and chances are everyone out in AZ will want to see the new arrival.

I'd be excited about Halloween, but I'm out of the country then. >o<

Still, might go apple picking or something because I'm lame like that.

Fuck the majority of people who buy gas at the Arco on Woodruff and Artesia. Jesus fucking... It's the cheapest gas in the area and people are constantly waiting in long lines for it. Worst part, though, is once people park at a pump they take FOREVER to get their gas and go. Like they go inside and don't come out for 20 minutes.

Earlier tonight, all of the pumps were occupied by unattended vehicles. Like they were just parking spaces. Eventually one person came out to lift their hood and was having someone come over to jump their battery, this other vehicle blocking one row of pumps and people were stuck.

Granted, you buy hundreds of pairs of boxers and you and your parents don't have enough cash for any other clothing or food, rent/mortgage, utilities, or anything else you need money for.

There were other places to park. They could have easily pushed their car, drained battery or not, over there and did their business out of the way.

I've been in mentally abusive relationships with people I've been dating. Not sure if it was gaslighting, though, that was the problem.

No with Steve it was that he was jealous all the time and didn't like if I even looked in the general direction a possessor of a Y-chromosome might be in.

As for... heh, another guy I was in a semi-relationship with who shall remain nameless... he kept leading me on, making me believe we had something, and I kept following him around, paying for everything, doing anything I could to show I was worthy of him (which is such bullshit as I look on it these days). I compromised myself A LOT. I guess this would be one of the occurrences of gaslighting in my life. If I felt jealous or anything around him, he'd play it off like it was nothing.

Coming out of the relationship with him, I actually felt stronger. Well, if you can call it that. I was suddenly more of the mind that I could leave emotions out of sexual experiences and was more able to guard my heart by putting an emotionless wall around myself. Perhaps I'm stronger now that I feel the scars from him have finally faded and I'm in a better place than I was then.

OK, this is my second go at answering this survey. It seems like the person who posted this on the site on which I'd found it combined three surveys into one and there are a few duplicate-ish questions.

Do you hate more than 3 people?
- If people on reality shows count, then yes. Otherwise, doubtful.

What is your favorite candy bar?
- Milky Way.

What are your favorite shoes?
- My mid-calf boots that look like they came out of the 1800s (well, except for the fact that they have a zipper).

Have you ever tripped someone?
- Not intentionally.

Do you own a Britney Spears CD?
- That first one she did that had "Baby One More Time" on it and she was doing that fake virgin Catholic school girl act. This was before downloading music, and I was wondering what the hype was all about. I'm not sure what happened to it, but I know I didn't have it long.

Have you ever thrown up in public?
- I don't think so. I almost did at that Oktoberfest in South Bay after drinking this REALLY yeasty local-brewed beer. Felt like bread rising in my stomach.

What is your favorite music genre?
- Probably Celtic rock/punk.

What is your sign?
- Capricorn.

What time were you born?
- Around 5 or 6 p.m.

Do you like beer?
- Not really these days. I'd take cider over bitters any day.

Have you ever made a prank call?
- I used to call 800 numbers from payphones when I was bored, seeing what dirty words I could spell out with the numbers. I'd call something like 1-800-55-SLUTS or 1-800-BOY-COCK and see if it connected. If I got a machine, I left a message informing them of their number's unfortunate spelling.

I think I got a person once. After he said the name of the business I said something like, "Do you know your number is 1-800-HOT-CUNT?" and hung up. Before I did, though, I think I remember him acknowledging that he was aware of it.

What is the most embarrassing CD you own?
- I'm not embarrassed by any of my CDs, but I guess any of the Ricky Martin ones.

Are you sarcastic?
- No, not at all.

What are your favorite colors?
- Deep magentas and purples, earthy greens, and black.

How many watches do you own?
- None.

Summer or winter?
- Winter.

Spring or fall?
- Both? Maybe fall a little more.

What is your favorite color to wear?
- Black, I suppose.

Pepsi or Sprite?
- Sprite.

What color is your cell phone?
- Navy blue, black, and silver.

Have you ever slapped someone?
- Yep.

Have you ever had a cavity?
- Yep.

How many lamps are in your bedroom?
- Two.

How many video games do you own?
- My own personal collection: three (God of War 2, Shadow of the Colossus, and Final Fantasy XII)

What was your first pet?
- A silky terrier named Teddy. My mom had him before she even got with my dad.

Have you ever had braces?
- Nope.

Do looks matter?
- If they do, I'm in trouble.

Do you use Chapstick?
- No.

Name 3 teachers from your high school:
- Mr. McCabe (senior anatomy), Mr. Jacobsma (AP government and various history classes), and Dr. Evans (Spanish 2, now deceased).

American Eagle or Abercrombie?
- Neither.

Are you too forgiving?
- Depends. Most of the time, yes, but I have been known to hold grudges.

Do you own something from Hot Topic?
- A couple old trench coats.

What is your favorite breakfast?
- Chicken fried steak and biscuits with gravy.

Do you own a gun?
- None yet.

When was the last time you cried?
- Shed a few tears reading a story a few days ago.

What did you do 3 nights ago?
- Went to a James Bond theme costume party. I'd bought a lab coat and took my old badge from Kaiser Permanente and put "NO" as my last name. Brandon was a bit more on the nose, having a VHS cassette of Tomorrow Never Dies taped to his shirt.

UPDATE: Since I've taken forever writing this post out, this answer is now out-dated. Three nights ago I was eating what came out to a $30 seared ahi on pickled bok-choy.

When was the last time you went to Olive Garden?
- I think I was either 2 or 3. I have no memory of eating, but rather memory of going and later my mom angrily walking home with me (while my dad and grandpa stayed to finish dinner) because I apparently was throwing rolls at some girl at another table. I remember only caring about going home to watch Temple of Doom.

Have you ever called your teacher mom?
- Maybe in kindergarten, by mistake, out of a force of habit when speaking to an older woman.

Have you ever been in a castle?
- Windsor Castle in England and Sleeping Beauty's castle in Disneyland.

What are your nicknames?
- Rogue, Geek Pimptress, and E-Ten or E-Teen (Lee and Bernie call me either of those for some reason).

Do you know anyone named Bertha?
- Shockingly no.

Have you ever been to Hawaii?
- Several times.

Do you own something from Banana Republic?
- No.

Are you happy with your life right now?
- Right now, not entirely. I'm too bored and lazy and fat right now.

Does anyone like you?
- I should hope so.

What were you doing May of 1994?
- Finishing up third grade in Catholic school, and perhaps getting ready to leave it and head to public school.

McDonald's or Wendy's?
- McDonald's, probably. While I acknowledge that Wendy's nuggets are better, I still prefer the McNugget for its nostalgia.

Do you like yourself?
- I like aspects of me, but overall, not really.

Favorite feature of the opposite sex?
- The ability to make me smile no matter what.

Are you afraid of the dark?
- Yes.

Have you ever eaten paste?
- I don't think so.

Do you have a webcam?
- There's one on the laptop on which I am typing this.

Have you ever stripped?
- Not in a club or anything.

What was the last film you saw at the cinema?
- Captain America.

What are your favorite TV shows?
- Way too many favorite shows, so to cut it down here are the ones I consider favorites that are still on the air: Boardwalk Empire, Mad Men, House M.D., MythBusters, and Hung. Starting to get into Raising Hope on Fox.

What did you have for breakfast?
- Chicken fettuccine alfredo.

UPDATE: Jack in the Box's new breakfast platter. It was crap.

What is your middle name?
- Marie.

What foods do you dislike?
- Pickles and Indian food (more that it dislikes my stomach).

What is your favorite CD at the moment?
- Rocktopus, probably.

Favorite sandwich?
- Ham steak on toasted-in-olive-oil rosemary focaccia bread with melted cheese. Gotta make it yourself. I've never had a sandwich at a restaurant like it.
