Though I am not part of this tournament, I question the method in which the challenges were brought out to each contestant. Instead of letting them choose a topic they felt they could strongly support, you literally force upon them some random topic...some that really don't have anything to do with recent events. And not only that, you didn't give them much of a choice to decide whether they were for or against. I mean, i can't imagine someone honestly debating to the best of their ability when they are for something but they are forced to debate against it.

Like I said to Xeo,

This is not a debate as to what you think, instead it is a debate as to how good you are in finding information and arguments for a certain side, and posting it.

Also, I tell you which side you are on. If I say you are for something, that means that you must argue on the side of the topic. If I say you are against it, then that's what you are.

Well if it's about how well you can support something with proof and information then it seems there won't be any heated agruments. A good limiter I'll say.

i felt that at least two ppl in this comp are going against their very nature and being put against something they believe in.

Uh...yeah...its done all the time at school (I'm not concerned that this is not school, I'm using this as an example). You are given a topic and a side (it doesn't matter whether you believe in that side or not) you have to gather information for it. A "debate" may be what you believe in, but if you can't find any information based on your belief...then you really are screwed. How are you going to get people to believe your side of the story if there's no information on it?

You think I like the way it's done in schools? Hey, news flash buddy, I don't like it at all, and I think it's a load of bullshit. So, hey, there went that comparison! But I'll elaborate.

So what if it's a test of how you can gather and present information? If you're arguing for something you don't believe in, you will not have NEARLY as much motivation or desire to do such. It'd be like me arguing for the existence of God - yes, I could try to find the information, but would I really want to?

(heh, we're debating about debates)

No one is out, and I will put no one as a loser, as almost no one actually perticipated.

Now we do something different. I will assign topics, and you will choose what topic, and what side to be on. This way, people may get what they want. These topics, as nothing happened in the last round, will be similar to before.
